Fair Isaac Corp., maker of the popular FICO credit score, is rolling out its new-and-improved scoring model, dubbed FICO 08, with Equifax Inc.–the second of the three major credit reporting bureaus to start offering the score to lenders.

Some lenders, generally smaller ones who can switch over their systems more quickly, are already using the FICO 08 score with TransUnion LLC, which began offering the score to lenders in January, says Tom Quinn, vice president of global scoring at FICO. Larger lenders will take longer to switch over. No word yet on when Experian Group Ltd.–which has been in litigation with FICO–will join the other two.

But with two of the three major credit bureaus starting to make FICO 08 available to lenders, it’s likely that some consumers could start seeing changes in their FICO scores.
But regardless of whatever version of FICO that lenders are using, there has been a “noticeable movement into lower scores,” given the economic slowdown and rise in delinquencies, says Quinn. The silver lining is that some consumers’ scores are improving as they pay down their balances, avoid applying for new credit and continue to pay their bills as agreed.

Survey shows that companies are still struggling with ediscovery practices

A global survey undertaken by HP found that less than half of business decision-makers have a high confidence level in the quality and accessibility of information within their organisations.

Most organizations remain ill-equipped to manage information for electronic discovery requests in a timely and cost-effective manner. This is due to the lack of a proactive strategy, solutions and funding to properly address requests.

When asked which “information-centric” projects they would spend on in the next two years, respondents noted document workflow transformation, records management and e-discovery/compliance.

However, companies are still struggling with these fundamental requirements, primarily because they don’t understand the requirements for responding to ediscovery requests. In addition, they lack the funding for the right technology

More than half of respondents from small and medium-sized businesses cited a lack of understanding of e-discovery requirements as the main reason for not establishing an effective e-discovery strategy. They also noted the lack of a business case.

Of the respondents surveyed, nearly 80 percent recognized a need to address at least three types of electronically stored information with an e-discovery solution: emails (89 percent), office documents (78 percent) and data in databases (72 percent).(2)

As much as 80 percent of content within organizations today is “unstructured,” or information that is not held within a database.

Very few organizations said they would be looking to address multimedia information sources through ediscovery solutions. This raises the question of how organizations would deal with the complexities of an e-discovery request that includes other forms of unstructured content including text messages, video, audio and social media content.

The survey included telephone interviews with 142 business and technology executives in organizations with more than 10,000 employees in the US, UK, Australia and Singapore. Interviews spanned industries such as manufacturing, finance, wholesale, retail, construction and government.

HP also conducted an online survey on the barriers, priorities and requirements associated with establishing an e-discovery strategy. Respondents were predominantly senior executives based in the United States.

Carrier Ethernet is now becoming a widely deployed technology to connect metropolitan area networks. With Ethernet becoming immensely popular with customers, service providers are keen to roll out Ethernet networks that are carrier class. The key to the large scale roll out of these networks is two fold – standardization and conformance.
For Ethernet networks to become carrier class, they have to bring to the table, the same kind of services that have been available with traditional networks like Frame relay and ATM. Besides services, the networks have to pass the tests of reliability, simplicity and rapid provisioning. To achieve this and to increase interoperability amongst equipment vendors, there is need to standardize the services and requirements of carrier Ethernet.
This is being achieved by forums like the Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF) and by standards bodies like IEEE. Once standards are decided and services and implementation agreements reached, the task shifts to conformance.
For interoperability, its imperative that equipments that be certified for conformance to standards. It was inevitable, of course, given that the first movie pulled in an astonishing $412.6 million at the worldwide box office. That’s a lot of moolah for an R-rated rom-com.

Sex And the City 2, as it’ll probably be called, will go up against Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time, and Jake Gyllenhaal’s abs. Both films may not seem like they’re going after the same audience, but you never know.

So far, little is known about the plot of Sex And The City 2, but the old gang – SJP, Kim Cattrall, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis - will all return. How will Carrie’s marriage to Big have fared? What’s up with Charlotte’s baby? Will Samantha get back with Smith? And why the hell do we care so much? DAMMIT!

Leno show out of prime time

Not everyone will be able to get their before-bed Jay Leno fix come September.
Boston's NBC affiliate, WHDH-TV, is opting to air an hour-long local newscast in the 10 p.m. hour instead of sticking with the network's new talk-show vehicle for Jay Leno, who will bow out as host of the Tonight Show on May 29.
"We feel we have a real opportunity with running the news at 10 p.m.," station owner Ed Ansin told the Boston Globe. "We don't think the Leno show is going to be effective in primetime," Ansin said yesterday. "It will be detrimental to our 11 o'clock. It will be very adverse to our finances."
But NBC doesn't plan to stand idly by so that Bostonians can tune into the Channel 7 news.
"WHDH's move is a flagrant violation of the terms of their contract with NBC," said NBC TV Network president John Eck. "If they persist, we will strip WHDH of its NBC affiliation. We have a number of other strong options in the Boston market, including using our existing broadcast license to launch an NBC owned and operated station."
The controversial (in theory, not content) Jay Leno Show will launch in September, thereby officially ending NBC's tradition of showing scripted dramas at 10 p.m. (The tradition symbolically ends with tonight's ER finale.)
Conan O'Brien is poised to take over the Tonight Show June 1.
Boston is the seventh largest TV market in the U.S. Ansin told the Globe that WHDH's contract with NBC allows it the option of passing on Leno in favor of news.
It remains to be seen whether this will be the beginning of a nationwide revolt.

Bill gates once predicted that Tablet PCs or a tablet mac will replace textbooks in schools. These graphic tablets obviously have a better edge over the drab textbooks.
· When the textbooks are available in electronic form, students can “carry” all of their books with them on a single Tablet PC/ mac tablet.
· Interactive textbook content management systems are being developed that make it easier to have physical access to the texts and allow students to create, organize, share, and archive personalized markups, and to review sheets and notes. One example is the e-Text project, an electronic textbook used in the Introductory Computer Science class at Hope College (Ryan McFall, Hope College).
· In addition, transforming physical textbooks into electronic resources—with highlighted sections, sticky notes, Web pages, and hyperlinks—will enable more efficient sharing of resources. The Adaptive Book Project is one example of this (Ananda Gunawardena, CMU). It may become feasible for a student to use the Tablet PC to drag text and images from a book, annotate, save, and then share them with other students. Furthermore, handwritten annotations could be tied to specific markups in the text.

You might take geometry tutoring or calculus homework help, which might make it easy, but in the end it always shows out its terror face. You could probably try this technique along with your tutoring and see if it works to be easy. I think it works.

Read
Read the entire problem to learn what it is about. You may find it helpful to read the problem out loud, form a picture of the problem in your mind, or draw a picture of the problem.

Question
Find the question to be answered in the problem. Often the question is directly stated. When it is not stated, you will have to identify the question to be answered.

Write
Write the facts you need to answer the question. It is helpful to cross out any facts presented in the problem that are not needed to answer the question. Sometimes, all of facts presented in the problem are needed to answer the question.

Question
Ask yourself “What computations must I do to answer the question?”

Compute
Set up the problem on paper and do the computations. Check your computations for accuracy and make any needed corrections. Once you have done this, circle your answer.

Question
Look at your answer and ask yourself: “Is my answer possible?” You may find that your answer is not possible because it does not fit with the facts presented in the problem. When this happens, go back through the steps of RQWQCQ until you arrive at an answer that is possible.

Reality TV star Jade Goody has died at the age of 27.
She died at home with her family in Upshire, Essex, in the early hours of Sunday after a high-profile battle with cervical cancer.

At the wake of Jade goody’s death, I thought I should share some info about cervical cancer.

Cervical cancer starts in the cells of the cervix. The cervix is the narrow, lower part of the uterus (or womb). It is the passageway that connects the uterus to the vagina.

Cancer of the cervix occurs when the cells of the cervix change in a way that leads to abnormal growth and invasion of other tissues or organs of the body.
Like all cancers, cancer of the cervix is much more likely to be cured if it is detected early and treated immediately.

As in many cancers, you may have no signs or symptoms of cervical cancer until it has progressed to a dangerous stage.

Cervical cancer does not usually cause pain, although it may in very advanced stages.

The most common symptom is abnormal vaginal bleeding. This is any bleeding from the vagina other than during menstruation.

Abnormal vaginal discharge also may occur with cervical cancer.

Humans have always strived to understand where the universe came from. Aristotle believed it could not have had a beginning and would not end. Immanuel Kant asked why, if there was a beginning, the universe had waited an infinite time before it began.

In 1915, Albert Einstein's general theory of relativity solved the conundrum: space and time were not fixed backgrounds to events, but dynamic entities. And, just as there is no point further south than the South Pole, time cannot exist outside the universe. But there was a problem: Einstein's idea, which describes the very large, does not fit with the other pillar of 20th century physics - quantum theory - which describes the very small.

The Large Hadron Collider at Cern in Geneva, which switches on this summer after 20 years of preparation, is an attempt to bring us closer to solving this dilemma. It will smash particles together to recreate the moments after the big bang, producing a new golden age of discovery for physicists. The essays that follow give a taste of our excitement.

Some have asked if turning on the LHC could produce some disastrous, unexpected result. Indeed, some theories of spacetime suggest the particle collisions might create mini black holes. If that happened, I have proposed that these black holes would radiate particles and disappear. If we saw this at the LHC, it would open up a new area of physics, and I might even win a Nobel prize. But I'm not holding my breath.

WWF are urging the world to VOTE EARTH and reach the target of 1 billion votes, which will be presented to world leaders at the Global Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen 2009.

This meeting will determine official government policies to take action against global warming, which will replace the Kyoto Protocol. It is the chance for the people of the world to make their voice heard.

Earth Hour began in Sydney in 2007, when 2.2 million homes and businesses switched off their lights for one hour. In 2008 the message had grown into a global sustainability movement, with 50 million people switching off their lights. Global landmarks such as the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, Rome’s Colosseum, the Sydney Opera House and the Coca Cola billboard in Times Square all stood in darkness.

In 2009, Earth Hour is being taken to the next level, with the goal of 1 billion people switching off their lights as part of a global vote. Unlike any election in history, it is not about what country you’re from, but instead, what planet you’re from. VOTE EARTH is a global call to action for every individual, every business, and every community. A call to stand up and take control over the future of our planet. Over 74 countries and territories have pledged their support to VOTE EARTH during Earth Hour 2009, and this number is growing everyday.

This is so creepy. Where is this world going to? Babies are having babies. What this world wants are responsible adults as parents and not kids. What were the responsible adults doing, the doctor, the parents? So is the government going to give them rented house and expect them to care of the baby? Come on these kids are expected to be at school!

There is this whole lot of couple who are yearning to have a baby in their mid ages and here is this couple, the boys voice still not cracked, managed to have a baby over a single night stand! What to say about the tabloid which covered this story for over 3 pages, and ran video of the 13 year old on its website and also boasted that the story broke its record for online web traffic.

Are they aware about the Clause 6 (iv) of the Editors code of practice “"Minors must not be paid for material involving children's welfare, nor parents or guardians for material about their children or wards, unless it is clearly in the child's interests,"

Google Earth acquired itself a new dimension: Depth

While at graduation we were amazed by www.google.com. Type any word, and it would throw relevant pages. I was amazed at the way Google popularized it Gmail. Google amazes again with ocean in Google Earth. You could now look under water and learn in 3D.

Approximately 70% of the world’s surface is covered by water and contains nearly 80% of all life, yet less than 5% of it has actually been explored. Google Earth now gives way to new explorations.

You could visit anything from underwater Volcanoes, Shipwreck, watch running video of marine life et al. Just name it and it will be on your screen.

The system has been developed in collaboration with oceanographer Sylvia Earle and an advisory council of more than 25 ocean advocates and scientists

Rafa is the REAL winner

Roger Federer cried uncontrollably after losing to Rafael Nadal. For a guy who was sooo close to beating Sampras record of 14 titles, this is a shocking loss. I am a huge fan of Fedrer. But this time my heart was with Rafael Nadal.

Nadal showed good sportsmanship by consoling Federer. Federers outburst kind of made it ackward for Nadal to express his joy over the Historic Win (he is the first Spaniard to win the Australian open). I don’t think Nadal received the acknowledgement and credit that he deserves as an No.1 tennis player.

My heart goes with Nadal, for the tenderness that he showed to Federer. Rafa is not relishing his win, but is trying to console his defeated friend. Three cheers to you Rafa

Why not Yoga for Muslims?

Malaysian and Indonesian Muslim religious leaders have issued a Fatwa against muslim practicing yoga. The leaders reason to have Hindu roots and that “It could destroy the faith of a muslim”.

True, Yoga is of Indian origin. But people need to look beyond that. Yoga is a science that helps in controlling body and mind. As an excellent form of exercise for the mind, yoga encourages relaxation through breadth control, meditation and striking body poses. Practicing Yoga regularly helps our muscle to become more flexible that makes it less vulnerable to injuries.

It is also true that many people practice Vedic Chantings during Yoga. Take for Instance the “Suryanamaskar” involves chanting of mantras or the divine “OM” and is considered as a salutation to the sun god by the Hindus. But the 9 -10 asanas or body postures practiced during “Suryanamaskar” us considered as the best form of exercise, that activates important muscles and points in our body to keep us going healthy and fresh all through the day.

Keeping the religious thing apart, yoga can be practiced as a good form of exercise. Breath control need not be practiced through chanting of “OM” but by just inhaling and exhaling as and when required. One should consider the overall advantage that yoga provides to the body and not brand it and set it aside for trivial reasons.

I think Muslims who are interested in Yoga should be encouraged to practice it as an good form of exercise, more than anything else.

Try and work towards a solution for your problems through communication rather than worsening the situation. It’s certainly not easy, and you alone can’t do it. It’s a team work. But if it works, it could work miracles.

An Indian View of Slumdog millionaire

After its feat at the Golden Globe, nominations for the Oscars and rave reviews of the west, Slumdog Millionaire, rechristened as ‘Slumdog Crorepathi’ hit the Indian screens on Friday. As any other enthusiast I checked out the movie on Friday itself.

Being a patriot, what hit me first was the depiction of India. Probably the timing of the movie was wrong, especially when patriotism and the concept of oneness are gushing into every Indian’s blood after the 26/11 incident. With the downturn also hitting us badly, we Indians probably want more gratification that “India is safe, secured and is a heaven on the earth” kind of stuff rather than a gruesome portrayal like this. May be this is the reason.

Kushwant singh rightly said “Indians don’t laugh at themselves”. Yeah we don’t, and we certainly don’t laugh if others make fun of us. It’s not a service that “Slumdog Millionaire” has done to tell Indians who we are. Its business man! Business over an Indian mockery is surely not a relished one.

AR Rahman is definitely the best. But Slumdog Millionaire is certainly not his best. Indians have heard far better scores than Slumdog Millionaire. But it’s again undeniable that it required a Slumdog millionaire to get him to his most deserved place.

Technically the movie was brilliant. A good fairy tale, in a wrong Indian context.

The clock ticks for the closure of Circuit City

It’s shocking but true. The bankruptcy court has set a Friday deadline for Circuit City to reach a deal with a buyer -- though an extension is possible. An auction determining Circuit City's fate was going on into the night Thursday at the offices of the company's New York law firm.

This is what the company has to say:

* Due to challenges to our business and the continued bleak economic environment, Circuit City is going out of business and the company’s assets will be liquidated to pay off creditors.
* The process was extremely difficult, and we were left with no other choice but to liquidate. Circuit City had a proud heritage of serving the public for 60 years, and we deeply regret the impact this decision will have on our associates, our customers and the communities where we have operated stores and other facilities.
* We had hoped to be able to emerge from Chapter 11 Bankruptcy protection as a stronger, more competitive company, and we made significant progress during the reorganization to improve our business. Unfortunately, the economic climate is so poor that we have no choice other than liquidation.
* Liquidation managers began arriving in our 567 stores across the U.S. over the weekend of January 17-18 and closing sales were started as early as Saturday, January 17. Closing sales will run as long as it takes to sell existing inventory but are expected to wrap up by the end of March. When the liquidation sales are completed, the stores will be closed.
* At the company’s corporate offices in Richmond, VA., a small staff will remain on duty during the completion of the liquidation process; most associates have been relieved of their duties.
* In some locations, a specific amount of notice regarding this change may be required by state or federal law. We informed all locations as soon as possible.

Satyam Stocks take a Dive

The worst hit after ‘The Satyam scandal’ exposure is the investors. Indian newspapers have reported that their stock index has fallen again, to the lowest in this month. Wipro, another Indian IT giant, has also lost 9.4% in the last 3 months.

One good move by India government is to allow a new board of directors to take over the company. What damage the corporate fraud has done, can be marginally saved when the new set of leaders taking over the company.

The board needs to immediately take actions that will safeguard jobs of over 50,000 Satyam employees, placed worldwide. It is in the hands of the three technocrats from technology, finance and law sectors, who have taken over as the new Satyam leaders, to probe and provide a fitting solution to this unsettling issue.

Satyam leaders have clearly misused their power and have deviated from the so-called ethical values they patronized so long. While investments have certainly plunged, it goes beyond doubt that the average life pattern of every Satyam employee has changed overnight.

The New Year celebration is a major celebration worldwide. But did you know that New Year is celebrated on January 1st in only those countries that are governed by the Gregorian calendar. Check these:

The Chinese New Year, also known as the Lunar New Year, can fall anytime between 21 January and 21 February. It occurs every year on the new moon of the first lunar month, about four to eight weeks before spring. It’s the most important Chinese celebration of the year.

New Year is celebrated in various parts of South India as ‘Ugadi” between March-April, based on the Lunisolar Calendar. It’s celebrated as “Gudi Padwa” in the state of Maharastra, India.

The Nepali New Year is celebrated in spring, on the first day of the lunar month Baisakh. In the Gregorian calendar, it usually falls between 12th and 15th of April.

These are just a few examples, and the list is endless, however all over the world people have accepted January 1st as the “English New Year”
