Take your kids off the couch

With computers and television invading our living rooms, there’s a greater responsibility on us to encourage our kids to get off the couch and get involved into some active play and exercise. Here are few tips on how to get your kids off the couch. Limit the time they spend on computers and television. It’s best to put the computer and the television in the living room, than in their bedrooms. Watching TV can also lead to childhood obesity.

Set a routine in place, with some time set apart for physical activity, everyday. Make it a family habit. Get up early with your kids and take a walk with your dog or jog. Kids always love to do things with family and also learn faster.

It’s physical activity that’s important and not just sports. Some kids may not be interested in sports but may show an inclination towards dance, hiking, reading etc. Know what interests your kids and encourage them to do it. If you child loves to read then make it a habit to take them to the nearest library or buy them some books. Enroll them in a nearby dance class, if they are interested in dance.

Kids tend to imitate their parents. So it’s important to mend our ways first. Try to indulge yourself in more physical activities, so your kids can learn from you.
